Shri Jayant Sinha
Hon’ble Minister of State for Civil Aviation
The Civil Aviation sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in India. In 2016, India becomes the third largest domestic aviation market in terms of number of passengers flown. Year-on year growth in domestic India RPKs accelerated to 16.0% in August 2017 - its 36th consecutive month in double-digit growth territory. The Government introduced the Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAN-Ude Desh ka Am Admi) to boost air connectivity across the nation in tier- 2 and tier 3 cities and at the same time, make it affordable.
India's total passenger traffic grew to 159 million in FY2017, growing from 104 million in FY2014. IATA has recently forecast that India would displace UK to become the third largest aviation market with 278 million passengers in 2026. The Governments constant endeavour is to move the Civil Aviation sector towards a bright, exciting and progressive future.
The establishment of RGNAU is a step in the right direction to build a strong foundation on which India's prowess in the aviation sector shall be showcased to the rest of the world. The output of this University -be it the students, the graduates or the post graduates - would be the force that engineers reform and galvanizes the Indian civil aviation sector.
I have immense faith in the team of RGNAU under the leadership of its Vice Chancellor and senior management. I also believe that the University would ably discharge the mammoth task of up-skilling India's young and upcoming generation to meet the international quality and standards, and also keep pace with the tectonic shifts that are taking place globally in the Civil Aviation Sector.
