Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU), established by an act of Parliament in 2013, is India’s first dedicated aviation university. The University is operational since 2016 and its objective is to cater to the growing educational requirements within the civil aviation sector in India. This university aims to be an apex institution focused at achieving excellence in areas of aviation management, policy, science and technology, aviation environment, training in governing fields of safety and security regulations on aviation and related fields.
As India is slated to become the third largest market by 2018 and the largest aviation market by 2030, such a rate of growth warrants the need for educated and skilled manpower in the industry. Therefore, a close partnership between the government and industry is imperative to address this need. RGNAU endeavours to be this link. To advance in its endeavour, RGNAU has signed MoUs with Rolls Royce, MRO Association of India, Bird Group, US-India ACP and GMR Aviation Academy.
RGNAU has successfully completed two short duration courses as of September 2017. The first was an Executive Development Programme (EDP) in Aviation Management, aimed at senior management of the aviation industry. The second was a Management Development Programme (MDP) on Implementation of Safety Systems, meant for manager and mid-level professionals from airports, airlines, regulatory authorities, ground handling agencies and cargo logistics companies. Both these programmes have been well received by the industry with positive feedback provided by the participants. The University is also looking forward to providing specialised courses for private companies in the aviation sector.
As the aviation sector in India evolves, RGNAU looks forward to keep itself on the edge of academic and technical innovation and offer a significant value addition to its students and stakeholders.
